Balls and Galas

Part of life here at St. Andrews is the black-tie ball and this past weekend was the first of them with the Kate Kennedy Opening Ball.  The overall event was very nice, most everyone looked great all decked out in their formal wear, and I ended up having more fun than I thought I would.  There was a combination of live music and DJs to keep the party moving along all night as well as free ice cream and cheap drinks.  My friend Christiaan and I even tried something called a blue alchipop, and it was about as horrible as it sounds (our tongues did turn blue though, so that was fun).  The only part that I could have done without were the really drunk kids.  These were the kids that clearly started drinking early in the afternoon as they were getting ready and were then falling down (literally on me) and getting sick just as the ball was beginning.  I am sure their Sunday was not a fun one at all.

Last night we had a Postgraduate Gala at the Scores Hotel.  The evening started with drinks and a performance by the Alleycats (one of the a capella choirs on campus) as we found our tables.  We had an enjoyable three-course meal followed by coffee/tea and fudge.  There were updates from the Postgraduate officers on upcoming events and talks about what we should do around town during our time here in St. Andrews.

Below are pictures from both events, some are mine, some are friends, and some are from the photographers at the events.
