Loch Ness

Last Thursday, Jessica and I left St Andrews and started our top-to-bottom tour of the U.K.  We traveled to Edinburgh so we could start our journey early Friday morning with a tour of the Highlands and Loch Ness.

I think I have said this before, but I want to be very clear on this.... the Scottish Highlands are my favorite place to visit and travel around so far.  As much as I love other places, there is something magical and beautiful and amazing about the Highlands.  I was so excited to share this with my sister, and we somehow even manged to go on a perfect sunny day.

Our tour started in Edinburgh, drove up through Glencoe, over to Ben Nevis (where we were able to see the top, which only happens on a hand-full of days each year), and then to Fort Augustus where we took a boat tour of Loch Ness before heading back down to Edinburgh.  It was a beautiful day, we had a great time, and we are both planning our next trip to the Highlands to hike the Highland Way trail in a couple years.
Welcome to the best tree in the Highlands.... it is growing out of a rock!

Meet Hamish the Highland Cow.... or Hairy Coo

A bit of a foggy morning, but it cleared up later in the day

No trip to the Highlands is complete without a kilt and bagpipes

Loch Ness... can you spot Nessie?
Because we found her

And she swam along side our boat for a bit... she might appear small, but that is just the camera playing tricks on you

Ben Nevis even made an appearance for us
