The reason for moving to Houston was for work. I have taken a job with David Weekley Homes, a custom home builder with offices in several cities, but the main office, the Home Services Team, is located in Houston. I work in the Money department (accounting/finance) and am still learning the details of my job. The interview process started in June, was finalized the end of July, and I started work in September. At this point both of my parents have met with my new boss and have given their stamp of approval for the company.
The company does a lot of outreach events, giving back is a big part of the culture in the office, and since September I have been able to participate in two different events. The first was Rebuild Together in October. A group of us spent two days working on a house for a lady in her 70's that had spent the last several years caring for her sick husband. It took most of her resources and he was not able to work on maintenance around the home. We scraped paint, fixed siding on the house, re-painted and put in landscaping in the front.

| Trim work is not my favorite, but it really adds the finishing touch |

In December I joined a group of team members and we built bikes one night for a charity called Elves and More. This is a great charity, they team up with schools that have at risk kids, and have the kids sign improvement contracts. Each contract is individual to the student, and if they make the improvements, they get a bike for Christmas. This group then gets volunteers to come out for a few hours a night for a couple weeks and put the bikes together for the kids. Truck drivers donate their time/rigs and deliver the bikes to the different areas. It was a fun evening learning about this charity and working on the bikes.
